Technology Procedures
Having clear technology procedures in place will help ensure students know exactly what is expected of them whenever they handle the devices. Putting students in charge of implementation of procedures will give them buy-in and will help minimize damage.
Technology procedures should include:
- laptop distribution (by table, group, etc.)
- transportation of laptops (two hands, hugging the laptop to the body)
- how to treat the laptops while in use (gently, remembering it is an expensive piece of equipment)
- how to return the laptops (by table, group, etc.)
The teacher does NOT have to be the one to monitor all of these activities.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Students who do not follow procedures lose laptop privileges. It won't take many repetitions for students to get the point. They want to use the devices! Don't forget to reward students who consistently treat the devices with respect! 5 minutes of free play on Math Playground, PhotoBooth, or iChat will be more motivating than you can imagine!
